Contrary to reports that Sandhya Singh had gone to deposit jewellery in bank the day she went missing, the crime branch said Wednesday she wanted to deposit a large amount of cash.

Skeletal remains of Sandhya, sister of music composers Jatin and Lalit, were later found along Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai.

Police said Sandhya did not want to keep the money home to avoid giving to her drug addict son Raghuveer.

Raghuveer, who is an accused in the case, was denied anticipatory bail Tuesday.

“We recorded statements of several people close to Sandhya. She had told a friend she was going to deposit jewellery in bank but she actually left with a bag full of cash. Sandhya and Raghuveer used to have frequent quarrels over his drug habit and she was not comfortable keeping cash in their house. Sandhya also disapproved of his girlfriend, who had started staying with Raghuveer,” said an officer.

Raghuveer has been questioned more than once about the contradictory explanations he offered to relatives about Sandhya’s disappearance. Officers who interrogated him said he was now denying the statements.

“We will soon file an application for permission to subject him to narco-analysis,” the officer said.
