Shariful Islam, who was arrested for allegedly attacking actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence in January this year, sought bail before the Mumbai sessions court on Friday. The bail plea will come up for hearing on April 1.
In his plea, Islam said that he had not committed any offence and that a false case had been registered against him. Terming the statements in the FIR an “imaginary story”, Islam said that if granted bail, he will abide by the conditions set by the court.
The bail plea, filed through lawyer Ajay Gawali, said, “The Applicant states that even if the said witnesses are taken as a gospel truth, without admitting anything on record, for the sake of arguments then also it won’t be able to fulfil the ingredient of Section 311 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita ( robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt).”
It also stated that the investigation in the case was “practically completed” and only the filing of the chargesheet was pending.
On January 16, the Bandra police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an unknown intruder who entered the residence of Khan and his wife Kareena Kapoor. After a staff member at the house saw the intruder and raised an alarm, Khan came out of his room and questioned the man. The actor was then allegedly attacked with a hexa blade, and suffered injuries on his hand, neck and back. While Khan was rushed to the hospital, the intruder managed to escape.
The Mumbai police arrested Islam from Thane on January 19 after tracking him using CCTV footage and other technical evidence. The police have said that Islam is a Bangladeshi national who had entered the country illegally.
