59 medals announced for state police; 17 get gallantry medals

The central government announced 59 medals for the Maharashtra police on Wednesday, on the eve of Independence Day.
The medals include 17 for gallantry, 3 for distinguished service, and 39 for meritorious service.
Among the recipients is Police Sub-Inspector Dhanaji Honmane, who will be posthumously awarded the gallantry medal for his sacrifice in an encounter with Naxalites in Gadchiroli in 2020.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kunal Tare and 15 other police personnel will also receive the gallantry medal for their bravery in operations against Naxalites.
Sub Divisional Police Officer Kunal Sonvane, PSI Dipak Aute, Rahul Devhade, Vijay Sakpal, police constables Nageshkumar Madharboina, Shakil Shaikh, Vishwanath Pedam, Vivek Narote, Moreshwar Potavi, Kailash Kulmethe, Kotla Korami, Korke Veladi, Mahadev Wankhede, Mahesh Michha, Samayya Asam were among others who got the gallantry medal for three operations against Naxalites.
Additional Director General of Police Chiranjeev Prasad, Assistant Commissioners of Police Satish Govekar and and Rajendra Dahale will receive the President’s medal for distinguished services.
As many 39 police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Datta Shinde and Deputy Inspector General Sandeep Diwan were selected for medal for meritorious service.
Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Dwarkadas Bhange from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will receive the medal for meritorious service for his exceptional work in improving conviction rates and his suggestions in various cases.
His research and thesis have also contributed to the Maharashtra police’s efforts to enhance evidence collection and trial court judgments.
