RISING humidity may cause showers in the city and its surrounding areas beginning May 30,weather experts said.

Although the rains are expected to arrive in Kerala only on June 3,the build-up of clouds over the past ten days in the city may result in light showers later this week, they said.

“Pre-monsoon clouds need high levels of humidity. But they haven’t developed completely as yet,” said V K Rajeev, director,Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC),Mumbai.

With humidity levels hovering between 71 per cent and 83 per cent, cloudy skies with the possibility of rains and thunder have been forecast for the week ahead. As humidity levels rise in the afternoon,pre-monsoon clouds have been spotted between 3 pm and 6 pm,RMC said.

Rainfall may occur in the evening on May 30 and 31 and on June 1. Showers may also be accompanied by thunder, ten to fifteen days before the monsoon arrives in Mumbai, the RMC added.
