Revamped Borivali garden to become place to be

There’s good news for citizens seeking open spaces.

There’s good news for citizens seeking open spaces. The civic administration has decided to revamp a 10,000-square-metre garden in the heart of Borivali at a cost of approximately Rs 2 crore. The garden on Chandavarkar Marg in Borivali (West) will be first of its kind in the north-western suburb.

“The project was stuck due to shortage of funds,but Additional Municipal Commissioner Aseem Gupta made sure the proposal was passed,” said Deputy Mayor and R-Central Ward corporator Mohan Mithbaonkar. The revamp was first proposed to the standing committee in 2010.

The garden will offer hi-tech amusement to children,it will have slides made of grass,a sprinkler system for watering plants,community centre,fountain,a waterfall and residential quarters for maintenance staff. It will also have plants and trees that attract butterflies,medicinal plants,a lit-up jogging track,drinking water system,toilets and an exclusive water pumping station.

The garden to be divided into three for children,adults and senior citizens will have fire-fighting equipment and fire-resistant wiring.

“We had estimated the cost of redoing the garden at Rs 2.5 crore but the lowest bidder (R&B Infra) said it would be able to do the work for Rs1.76 crore,” said Mithbaonkar. R&B Infra would also provide man power to maintain garden.
