Nearly three hundred people on Saturday gathered outside the house of the seven-year-old girl who was reportedly raped and murdered in Goregaons Teen Dongri area on Friday. The girl was cremated on Saturday.
Those gathered outside expressed shock and disgust for the manner in which the girl was murdered.
The incident had come to light on Friday when the girl went missing. A frantic search for her yielded no results. A person residing in the vicinity then reportedly found the girls slippers outside the accused Babaji Kambles (50),house. When those searching for the girl went inside,they found her dead in Kambles house.
An irate mob then assaulted Kamble,an autorickshaw driver, who suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he is currently recuperating.
Police officers probing the case said Kamble will be produced in court on Sunday.
He was unconscious and was not in condition to be produced in court. We will produce him in court on Sunday, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 11) Mahesh Patil.
Officers of the Goregaon Police Station revealed that Kamble has many other cases pending against him. He was acquitted in a murder case in 2002. He was also wanted for two robbery cases in 2006. Kambles wife had left him and even his children did not talk to him, said an officer from the Goregaon Police Station. The victims father is a daily labourer while her mother is a domestic help.
