As Bastian Bandra gives way to ‘Ammakai’, a South Indian speciality restaurant, Ranjit Bindra shares company’s big expansion plans
The group — which launched the 10,000 square feet rooftop restaurant and bar Bastian - At The Top in Dadar in 2023 — is also expanding to Juhu with Bastian Beach Club.

A day after actor Shilpa Shetty announced on Instagram that the OG Bastian in Bandra would shut its doors, Bastian Hospitality founder and CEO Ranjit Bindra unveiled the company’s next phase of expansion.
“Bandra was our beginning and while that chapter closes, two new ones are waiting to be written,” Bindra posted, adding that from mid-October the iconic Bandra space will transform into a specialty South Indian restaurant called Ammakai. The group — which launched the 10,000 square feet rooftop restaurant and bar Bastian – At The Top in Dadar in 2023 — is also expanding to Juhu with Bastian Beach Club.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Bindra explained that the Bandra building housing Bastian will be redeveloped next year. “This building has been lucky for me. All my hospitality ventures have started from there, including clubs like Gangsta and even my entry into dining with Bastian. So before it goes down, I wanted to try my hand at another concept,” he said, adding that Ammakai (meaning ‘the mother’s hand’) will “honour the depth of South Indian culinary traditions with recipes steeped in heritage, enriched with regional flavours, and delivered with the impeccable service and quality Bastian is known for.”
On his second project, he added, “Bastian Beach Club will be Mumbai’s first beach club. Spread across 14,000 sq ft, it will open its doors in November this year.”
For those upset about Bastian moving out of Bandra, Bindra clarified that it is not going away. “Bastian is opening again in Bandra. It is evolving into a members only club spread across five floors. It will be up and running by December or January next year.”
That’s not all. Bindra also revealed that the brand will be making its Goa debut. “We are opening our first hotel, Bastian Goa. It is a luxury boutique property with a beach club. We will start with six villas in phase one, before eventually expanding to 46 rooms in total.”
