Pune engineer files complaint over theft of shoes from Mahalaxmi temple
“I kept my shoes on the shoe rack before going inside for darshan. But when I returned my shoes were missing...," he said.

A 31-year-old IT engineer from Pune lodged a police complaint after his shoes worth Rs 4,500 were stolen from Mahalaxmi Temple in Mumbai on June 5.
According to the complainant Mayank Garg, he decided to pursue the matter because it was a birthday gift from his in-laws, which were a Skechers brand shoe, valued at Rs 4,500.
“I kept my shoes on the shoe rack before going inside for darshan. But when I returned my shoes were missing… I looked around and even checked with those present there but in vain… I even went to the police personnel stationed at the temple, but they refused to help and asked me to file a complaint,” said Garg who was in Mumbai along with his wife and a nine-month-old child.
He initially reported the theft at Chinchwad police station in Pune who registered a case and transferred its investigation to Gamdevi police station in Mumbai. After reaching Pune, Garg dialled the number of the Mumbai police control room and reported the theft to them.
“The personnel told me to go and lodge a complaint at the nearest police station to my house. So I went to Chinchwad police station and reported the matter after which a case of theft was registered,” he said. Garg said his shoes were blue coloured Skechers air-cooled model.
As the incident took place under the jurisdiction of Gamdevi police station, the investigation was transferred to Mumbai. Senior police inspector Vivek Bhosale of Gamdevi police station said, “We have registered a case of theft and have started checking the footage of the CCTV cameras. We will soon catch the culprit.” The officials from Gamdevi police station said that they received the documents related to the case on June 22 after which a fresh case was lodged and investigation has begun.
