Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi president Prakash Ambedkar met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai Wednesday. Ambedkar later said, “My meeting with the CM was regarding the riots that took place at Akola and Shevgaon in Ahmednagar district.” He further said, “There was a report where apprehensions about possible communal tensions were expressed. I do not have a copy of the report. But my information is based on something credible.” Talking about his meeting with CM Shinde, the VBA leader said: “I urged the chief minister to crack the whip on the real mastermind behind these communal riots.” Although he refrained from naming any political party for the riots, Ambedkar said: “The Karnataka Assembly polls have shown politics of riots and violence does not help. Gone are the days when riots were used as convenient tools to polarize society.”
