Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addresses the foundation stone laying ceremony of multiple developmental projects in Maharashtra. (PTI Photo)FRESH FROM the BJP’s victory in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for a bigger mandate for the party in the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, and targeted the opposition Congress, calling it a “factory of hatred” that pits one community against another.
Shortly after laying foundation stones for various projects worth Rs 7,600 crore in the state via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said: “The results in Haryana and J&K have shown the country’s mood. The BJP has won Haryana Assembly polls. It is a historic win for a third term. We have to ensure a greater victory in the Maharashtra Assembly polls.”
Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand are expected to be held in November.
Targeting the Congress, an ally in the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) bloc in the state, Modi said, “The Congress along with its urban Naxal groups vehemently conspired by propagating false narrative against Dalits, instigated farmers, triggered split within communities for vote bank which proved futile.”
This was reflected in the Assembly election results announced on Tuesday, he said, adding: “Despite their false narrative to mislead youth, women and farmers, all of them reposed their faith in the BJP.”
The Congress has a set formula, he said, “they instill fear among Muslims about the BJP as they want to retain their vote bank”.
“No leader from Congress ever speaks about so many castes within Muslims. When it comes to Hindus, their politics weighs on caste politics and communal agenda. They create a rift pitting one community against another with a preconceived agenda to divide Hindus and turn them into vote banks to serve their politics,” the Prime Minister said.
The older generation of Congress leaders find themselves helpless with the manner in which the party has reduced itself, he said. Today, Modi said, “Congress is a factory of hatred, fabricating lies.”
Asking the people to be alert about the Congress’s “devious agenda”, the Prime Minister said: “I am confident the BJP-led Mahayuti in Maharashtra will emerge victorious with a resounding bigger mandate.”
Hailing the work done by the ruling alliance, Modi said the speed and scale with which Maharashtra has moved with projects is praiseworthy. It never happened in the past, he said. During the Congress rule, the same speed and scale was witnessed in terms of corruption, he said.
Calling the Congress an “irresponsible party”, Modi said: “It is not concerned either about vikas (development) or virasat (legacy). We have paid attention to both.” He reiterated the BJP’s resolve for “Viksit Bharat”, where development and growth of farmers, poor, youths, women and students will be integral.
Earlier, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for upgradation of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur and the New Integrated Terminal Building at the Shirdi Airport. He also virtually inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills in Mumbai and Vidya Samiksha Kendra, and launched 10 new government medical colleges in Maharashtra.
The upgradation of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur will serve as a catalyst for growth across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, aviation, tourism, logistics, and healthcare, benefiting Nagpur city and the wider Vidarbha region.
“The New Integrated Terminal Building at the Shirdi Airport, worth Rs 645 crore, promises world-class facilities and amenities for the religious tourists coming to Shirdi,” an official said. The construction theme of the proposed terminal is based on the spiritual Neem tree of Saibaba.
The new medical colleges launched by the Prime Minister are located in Mumbai, Nashik, Jalna, Amravati, Gadchiroli, Buldhana, Washim, Bhandara, Hingoli and Ambernath (Thane).
