Taking a step towards making Mumbai slum-free, 149 families of Jai Santoshi Maa nagar in Mumbai’s Kandivali received the keys to their new homes that have been built under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). The keys were handed to the residents by union minister Piyush Goyal, who is also the MP from north Mumbai.

While addressing the gathering of residents Goyal also said that contractors and real estate builders who would be seen derailing projects would be either blacklisted or imprisoned.

“Builders who abandon projects, stop rent payments, or deliver substandard work will be blacklisted. In severe cases, they may face imprisonment. I also demand action against government officials who collude with such builders.”

Furthermore, Goyal also added that the beneficiaries must have the right to choose their developer, with no political or administrative interference, and that the process of executing projects under SRA needs to be fully transparent.

“In the next five years, 3 crore families will receive free pucca homes. No Indian should be left behind in the journey to a developed and self-reliant nation,” Goyal added.
