A day after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar held separate meetings with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and industrialist Gautam Adani, his party said that such meetings are necessary to solve issues concerning people.
Meanwhile, the party’s ally in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Congress said that it was an internal matter of the NCP and it does not want to talk about it.
“Despite political differences, certain meetings need to be held. Yesterday’s meeting was also regarding issues that concern people,” said Leader of Opposition and NCP MLA Ajit Pawar.
“NCP is an independent party and Sharad Pawar is its chief. Whether he wants to meet CM or Adani, we have nothing to comment on it as it is NCP’S internal matter,” said Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole.
Congress leaders had earlier expressed unhappiness over Pawar’s opposition to Joint Parliamentary Committee on the report on Adani by research firm Hindenburg.
Instead, Pawar advocated a committee appointed by the Supreme Court.
Pawar on Thursday met Maharashtra Chief minister Eknath Shinde at the latter’s official residence Varsha and invited him to the function on June 24 to mark the completion of 75 years of the organisation, Maratha Mandir, of which Pawar is the president.
Later in the evening, Adani visited the NCP chief’s residence, triggering speculations in political circles.
