Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday took a swipe at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray over state BJP Minister Chandrakant Patil’s claims that Shiv Sena was not involved in the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.

Speaking to mediapersons, Shinde said Uddhav has no right to speak on the issue. “They have lost the right to speak about it. Where was Uddhav Thackeray when Babri Masjid was demolished?” he asked.

He added that by his statement, Patil meant to know the whereabouts of the former chief minister (Uddhav Thackeray) when the mosque was demolished.

“I spoke to Chandrakant Patil. He meant to ask where were the former CM (Uddhav Thackeray) and the one who is speaking now (Shiv Sena-UBT Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut) when the masjid was being razed,” Shinde said in Ahmednagar.

“Garv Se Kaho Hum Hindu Hai slogan was raised by Balasaheb… In the Babri case, Balasaheb had faced a case in the Lucknow court. At that time, Lal Krishna Advani, Ashok Singhal and Uma Bharti were also there. There was no party there (at the site in Ayodhya where the structure once stood), all were devotees of Lord Ram,” he added.
