(File Photo)The Mumbai police Sunday registered an FIR against Anant Garje, personal assistant of Maharashtra Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, on charges of abetment to suicide after his wife allegedly died by suicide at their Worli residence on Saturday.
The FIR was registered based on the statement given by the father of the deceased Dr Gauri Palve (28), a dentist. Gauri and Anant got married in Beed in February this year.
According to the FIR lodged by her father, Ashok Palve, Gauri was subjected to frequent quarrels and mental harassment after the marriage. He said that on October 3, his daughter sent him several photographs on WhatsApp, which indicated that the husband was in relationship with another woman.
When she confronted her husband, he asked her to do whatever she wanted and threatened her saying he would commit suicide, putting the blame on her.
She alleged that even her brother-in-law and his wife knew about this relationship and threatened her that if she wanted to leave their brother, they would get him married again.
The parents said that when they recently visited the Worli residence of their daughter, they saw some injury marks on her body that she refused to explain.
According to her father, on Friday he missed two calls from her and when he called her back later, she told him everything was fine.
On Saturday evening, the father said they received a call from Anant who told them that their daughter had committed suicide, following which the family rushed to the city. She was declared dead at the Nair hospital.
Based on the father’s complaint, Worli police registered a case under abetment to suicide, husband/relatives subjecting wife to cruelty, among other sections. The family has also urged police to investigate if it was a a murder.
“All allegations in the FIR are being examined, and further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.
