Panel to be set up to explore scientific disposal of waste

The CM said that thousands of tonnes of waste is collected at the dumping sites of Mulund, Kanjurmarg and Deonar in Mumbai should be disposed in a scientific manner using the latest technology.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday directed the officials to set up a committee to explore ways for scientific disposal of garbage accumulated at the dumping grounds in Mumbai and submit its action plan within a week.

The CM said that thousands of tonnes of waste is collected at the dumping sites of Mulund, Kanjurmarg and Deonar in Mumbai should be disposed in a scientific manner using the latest technology.

Giving instructions to the officials after a video-conference meeting with Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, the CM also explored options to utilise Mumbai’s waste lands.

State chief secretary, BMC Municipal Commissioner, Secretary of MoHUA, and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
