Over 7,500 utensils at BMC canteen go missing

In a notice pasted outside the canteen, the caterer also put out a list of missing items stating that more than 7,000 spoons, 200 lunch plates, 400 snacks plates and 150 glasses have gone missing.

“We are requesting the employees as well as the visitors to not take the utensils outside the canteen after their use since there has been a scarcity of these utensils as many of the spoons and dishes have gone missing,” said a notice by the canteen representatives.

Located on the first floor of the new annex building in the BMC headquarters, the canteen caters to nearly 1,000 people daily, which includes civic officials, laymen, ancillary staffers, contractors, and politicians.

A source stated that the current contractor has been assigned to operate the canteen in February 2022 and that all the utensils have been lost in the past one year. The source said that the canteen authorities have asked the civic officials to have food at the canteen itself instead of ordering them from their offices so as to avoid misplacement of items.

“The previous contractor also lost utensils during his tenure. Now that there is a scarcity of so many utensils in the canteen it is affecting our service. Therefore, we have asked the visitors to not take the utensils out of the canteen,” said the source.
