In a staggering revelation, officials have said a total of 71,444 housing societies in Maharashtra do not have a conveyance deed. With the state having 1,15,172 cooperative housing societies, over 60 per cent are yet to get the crucial property document, according to these official figures. A conveyance deed is one of the most crucial legal documents that the seller uses for asserting the wilful transfer of ownership of a property to the buyer. According to Maharashtra's Co-operative Housing Department office, 2,990 conveyance deed proposals were received till December. Of these, 2,028 proposals were disposed of while 962 proposals are still pending. A government notification has been issued, a department official informed, directing all ward and taluka offices to take the help of private federations and make the societies register the document. In a month, at the taluka or ward level, directions have been issued to ensure registration by at least 50 societies. New buildings that have registered their society have been told to get their conveyance deed in a period of four months. Such societies can be issued notices in case of failure to do the needful. Societies seeking deemed onveyance deeds can register online or offline platform by paying Rs 2,000. While filling out an online application, a society registration document should be provided. Property tax documents of the last three months, annexure copies of all apartments, and building construction commencement certificate or occupancy certificate are among other required documents.
