After the first draft of the list was published last month, it was revealed that nearly 11.01 lakh names were listed as duplicate entries in the voter’s list. (File photo)After a three-week long verification drive to find duplicate voters–identified in the first draft of the voter’s list that was published in the last week of November–the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Saturday said nearly 1.68 lakh entries were finally identified as genuine duplicate voter entries, which is 15.28 per cent of total 11.01 lakh entries that were identified to be suspected duplicate entries in the first list.
Confirming the figures, civic officials said the remaining entries were cases of similar first or last names or multiple persons having the same name.
“Of the total number of duplicate voters who have been identified, nearly 24,000 individuals have already filled the Annexure A forms, specifying the wards and polling booths where they intend to vote,” a civic official said on Friday. Further, the official also maintained that out of the total duplicate entries, nearly 53,000 were identified during a door-to-door survey.
“In case a voter doesn’t wish to name the ward from where he/she wants to vote, then he or she will be given an Annexure B form on the voting day which they will have to fill up compulsorily. The data recorded from this form will be shared among all the polling stations to ensure that the same person doesn’t go to vote somewhere else,” the official added.
Further, the BMC’s data also shows that of all the 25 municipal wards, the highest number of duplicate entries (16,532) were identified at L ward which covers Kurla, Chandivali areas, followed by 12,010 entries at K west ward that covers Andheri West, Juhu, Versova and 11,618 entries recorded at R south ward which covers Kandivali West area.
After the first draft of the list was published last month, it was revealed that nearly 11.01 lakh names were listed as duplicate entries in the voter’s list, which was 10 per cent of Mumbai’s total electorate that stands at 1.03 crore.
