One dead, 26 injured as bus overturns in Raigad
The driver escaped from the spot without helping the injured passengers or calling authorities for help

At the time, 49 passengers, mostly from the Bhandup, Nalasopara and Kandivali areas, were travelling in the bus (Representative image)One passenger died and 26 others were injured after a private bus heading to Sawantwadi in Sindhudurg from Mumbai met with an accident in Karnala Raigad on Sunday night. Among the injured, five passengers were senior citizens, and four were minors, including a two-year-old girl.
A preliminary probe indicated that the accident took place due to speeding. The driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle and it overturned. The driver escaped from the spot without helping the injured passengers or calling authorities for help. Later, the local police and crime branch officials arrested the accused driver from the village, the police said.
The deceased passenger has been identified as Amol Krishna Talwadekar, a Rajapur resident heading back home.
At the time, 49 passengers, mostly from the Bhandup, Nalasopara and Kandivali areas, were travelling in the bus.
The injured passengers are undergoing treatment at MGM hospital. The driver has been arrested on charges of causing death by negligence, the police have said.
Youth dies in a hit-and-run accident in Borivali
A 23-year-old youth died after a speeding vehicle hit his bike on Western Express Highway in Borivali West on Saturday. Akshatsingh Bisht, a Malad resident, was heading back after work when his vehicle was hit by a heavy vehicle. The driver of the vehicle escaped from the accident spot while others were helping the injured person. Locals rushed the youth to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Kasturba Sub police have lodged an FIR against the unknown driver and are trying to identify the driver.
