One person died, while 25 others were left injured, after the driver of a bus ferrying 38 persons allegedly lost control and overturned near Karnala at Panvel on Mumbai-Goa highway.
The police said the incident took place at around 3.50 pm on Tuesday, after which all the injured were rushed to either the district hospital or MGM hospital in Panvel. One passenger identified as Diptesh Moreshwar Temkar (31) succumbed to his injuries said police officials.
An officer said that the bus was heading towards Mahad from Panvel depot, when the incident took place. “As per primary investigation, it appears the driver was going down a slope and did not reduce the speed due to which he lost control over the vehicle. The bus hit a divider following which the bus went off the road and overturned.”
Police said a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the driver.
