One arrested for duping people in name of housing loans

Sadashiv had been duping people for the past one year,and police claim he did not get caught,thanks to his unique modus operandi.

“He would only advertise in Marathi newspapers read by lower middle class and middle class people,and he would always pair up victim parties. He would tell the first party that he would give them a cheque which they should deposit in their account and then withdraw the money and give it to him. He would claim that was to prove that they have a working bank account. He would get this cheque from the second party by telling them that they should deposit 10 per cent of the loan amount they wanted in a bank account. He asked them to give him a blank cheque to take care of the bank’s “service charges”. He would then fill this blank cheque with an amount and the name of the first party. After receiving the money from them,he would disappear. This way,even when the second party made a police complaint,the first party,which was actually a victim,would get into trouble as co-conspirators,” said senior police inspector S Deshmukh,Matunga police.

When asked if any of the victims have been falsely implicated,Deshmukh said,“So far we are not sure but we are on the lookout for this as well as other cases that involve him. We will be tracking his victims using his phone records.”
