Demanding that the Maratha community should not be included in the Other Backward Classes category for reservation by giving them a blanket Kunbi caste status, the OBC community leaders will hold OBC Elgar rally in Jalna’s Ambad tehsil on Friday.
OBC leader Prakash Shendge said that all the senior OBC leaders of the state including Cabinet minister Chhagan Bhujbal, BJP leader Pankaja Munde and senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar will attend the rally.
“This would be an historical gathering in Jalna, which would be attended by several OBC leaders of the state. The rally is to protect the OBC community. Not only Maharashtra, but the entire country would witness the mega rally, “Shendge said.
The OBC leader also announced that after Jalna’s rally, the next rally would be held at Hingoli on November 26 and demanded that Kunbi caste certificates should not be issued to Marathas until the caste census is not taken place.
Interestingly the rally would be held at Dhait Nagar in Jalna which is around 25kilometers from Antarwali Sarati village where Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil was sitting on fast unto death demanding Kunbi (OBC) certificate for Marathas.
Kunbis are categorised as OBCs in the state.
Last week, Bhujbal had raised concerns over giving blanket reservation to Marathas from OBC quota and also took the state government over its handling of the Maratha quota stir and questioning its “mollycoddling” of Maratha activists.
The OBC leaders had then warned of an intense agitation if reservation is granted to Marathas under the OBC category by issuing Kunbi caste certificates to all Marathas and warned of approaching the court against the decision.
