The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has issued names of nodal officers with contact details including email ids in 24 administrative wards of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to register complaints of non-payment of rentals by developers.
“This is being done to streamline the process. Otherwise, all complaints are made to the headquarters making the process a bit tedious. With the availability of a dedicated nodal officer in each ward, the data of non-payment of rentals to tenants can be easily consolidated,” explained an official.
The move comes after the Bombay High Court had suggested SRA to come out with a solution after a petition was filed by tenants of buildings that were being redeveloped alleging that developers were defaulting on paying rents while redeveloping projects.
“We will issue stop work notices to those who failed to do rental payments. Whereas in cases where the projects have been abandoned and rentals pending for a few years, new developers will be appointed,” the official said.
