A Special sessions court Monday disposed of the anticipatory bail application filed by Deepak Gupta, a businessman accused of threatening Chitra Salunke, the lawyer of a model who has filed a complaint of rape and molestation against DIG Sunil Paraskar.
The Crime Branch told the court that to date, they had not found any evidence against Gupta and would not need him to remain in custody. Gupta, however, is required to be present at the Crime Branch for interrogation till September 1. Gupta claimed that he had approached Salunke as her client in 2013, when he was arrested after his wife filed a case against him for cruelty and criminal intimidation. However, according to his anticipatory bail application, Salunke had transferred the case to another lawyer without returning the fees and told Gupta’s relatives that she would adjust the money paid to her in “some future matter”.
Salunke claimed that a certain “unknown” person had, at the behest of Paraskar, assaulted and threatened her of dire consequences if she refused to withdraw the rape and molestation case against Paraskar. She had also filed an application praying for the cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Paraskar on August 12. She had later blamed Gupta of threatening her. She also alleged that call data records of Paraskar and Gupta had a common number.
