Amid speculations of organisational changes in Maharashtra Congress, the party state unit’s core committee on Tuesday held a meeting chaired by AICC in-charge and Karnataka minister H K Patil.

“We have a rule in our party. Except for exceptional circumstances, a person who is a part of the government does not share the responsibility in the organisation. Now I have been selected in the Karnataka government and I do not think it is wise to comment on organisational changes in the state unit. Let the new person come in and that person will take stock of the situation and will answer your question,” said Patil, when asked about the possibility of organisational changes in Maharashtra unit of the Congress.

Last week, the Congress had replaced its Mumbai chief MLC Bhai Jagtap with four-term MLA from Dharavi, Varsha Gaikwad.

In state unit too, discontent against party’s president Nana Patole is growing and it led to three senior party leaders from Vidarbha to approach senior party leadership in Delhi.

Two weeks ago, former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan too visited Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Source within the Congress, however, said that the party high-command has yet not decided on replacing Patole. However, discontent against him across the organisation has been conveyed.

The core committee also discussed about the Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra and party’s position.

“We had an important meeting of our core committee where we had a discussion on various parliamentary constituencies. We are working towards BJP-mukt Maharashtra,” said Patil adding that the “political wave” that started from Karnataka will make a “big impact in Maharashtra”, referring to Congress victory in Karnataka polls.

The party will be again meeting on June 16 to discuss the LS scenario.
