Twenty-eight year old Jeswin Thomas shifted from New Delhi to Mumbai about three months ago to take his career prospects forward and is currently working as an assistant manager in the legal team with Viacom 18. He currently lives in Andheri and moved to the city after working for four years in the capital after his postgraduation.
What he likes about the city
Contrary to most people, Jeswin prefers Mumbai’s weather to Delhi’s. Praising the organised public systems in place in Mumbai, he said, “It’s nice to see people queuing up to catch autos or buses. It’s extremely structured, everyone adheres to unspoken rules.” He appreciates the ease of hiring help in the city. “Something you don’t get in Delhi,” he says. He is also taken by the melting-pot culture of Bombay, and has fallen for the variety of people the city accommodates.
What he doesn’t like
As far as organised systems go, Jeswin feels there is a lack of variety in public transport facilities available. “In Delhi, you have the Metro that runs across the city. There are cycle rickshaws and other non-motor vehicles one can avail of, which is missing in Bombay,” he says. The crunching cost of rising real estate has also got him loosening his purse-strings, as he feels the pinch of the high costs staying in Mumbai entails.
