Maharashtra Cabinet gets new ministers, 8 NCP MLAs sworn in with Ajit Pawar

The Maharashtra Cabinet was previously functioning with 20 ministers against the maximum limit of 43 ministers.

Along with Ajit Pawar as Deputy CM, eight NCP MLAs have been sworn in as ministers on Sunday including Chaggan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, and Dhananjay Munde. The remaining five NCP MLAs inducted were Hasan Mushrif,  Dharmobaba Atram, Aditi Tatkare, Sanjay Bansode and Anil Patil.

The Maharashtra Cabinet was previously functioning with 20 ministers against the maximum limit of 43 ministers. Apart from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, there are nine ministers each from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and BJP in the Cabinet. The last Cabinet expansion in Maharashtra took place in August 2022 when nine from the Shinde-led Sena and another nine BJP MLAs were inducted into the Cabinet. Since then the talks of Cabinet expansion is on in the state.

Currently, CM Shinde holds the portfolios of General Administration, Information Technology, Information and Public Relations, Urban Development, Public Works (Including Public Undertakings). Along with these he also handles Transport, Social Justice, Marketing, Special Assistance, Relief and Rehabilitation, Disaster Management, Soil and Water Conservation, Environment and climate change, and Minority Development and Aukaf.

Fadnavis holds some important portfolios such as Home Affairs, Finance Planning, Law and Judiciary, Water Resources and Command Area Development. Housing, Energy and Protocol are also managed by him.

Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil currently holds Revenue, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Development.

Sudhir Mungantiwar holds the Forests Department, Cultural Affairs, and Fisheries Department while Chandrakant Patil is vested with Higher Education and Technical Education, Textiles and Parliamentary Affairs.

Tribal Development is managed by Dr Vijaykumar Gavit while Girish Mahajan has Rural Development, Medical Education, and Sports and Youth Welfare.

The Ports Development and Mining Department is managed by Dadaji Bhuse while Sanjay Rathod is managing Food and Drug Administration.

Uday Samant is at the helm of Industries and Ravindra Chavan has Public Works (excluding Public Undertakings), Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs. Suresh Khade is the Labour Department minister.

Employment Guarantee and Horticulture are vested with Sandiprao Bhumre while Abdul Sattar has Agriculture.

School Education and Marathi Language are managed by Deepak Kesarkar, and state Excise is with Shambhuraj Desai. Atul Save currently manages Co-operation, Other Backward Bahujan Welfare, Other Backward Classes, Socially and, Educationally Backward Classes, Vimukta Jati, Nomadic Tribes, and Special Backward Classes Welfare Department.

Tourism, Skill Development And Entrepreneurship, and Woman and Child Development are with Mangal Lodha.

The departments which don’t have any appointed minister currently are Ex. Servicemen Welfare, Majority Welfare Development, Earthquake Rehabilitation, Khar land Development and Disability Welfare.
