Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state president MP Sunil Tatkare, on Tuesday, announced the candidature of Shivajirao Nalavade as the NCP candidate from Mumbai Teachers Constituency for the upcoming biennial legislative council elections slated for June 26.
Nalavade’s candidature decision was announced in the parliamentary board meeting held in the presence of NCP leaders including NCP National President and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, National working president MP Praful Patel, State President MP Sunil Tatkare, and Mumbai Divisional President Sameer Bhujbal.
Nalavade is one of the founding members of the NCP and has served as the Mumbai district president for the party and was the former chairman of Mumbai Bank. He is currently working as the director of the bank. His contribution to the cooperative movement is seen as invaluable.
He will be pitted against the Shiv Sena UBT’s JM Abhyankar whose candidature was announced by Sena UBT last week.
On Monday, the Raj Thackeray–led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) announced Marathi film director and MNS functionary Abhijit Panse as its candidate for the Konkan Graduates’ constituency in the upcoming biennial legislative council elections. This constituency is currently represented by BJP’s Niranjan Davkhare.
