MVA to declare seat-sharing for polls on Dussehra day

Earlier Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat announced that 150 seats had been earmarked, and MVA will win over 180 seats in the polls.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will finalise and declare its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Assembly polls on Dussehra, which falls on October 12, the leaders of the alliance announced Tuesday.

The MVA leaders have been holding marathon meetings daily for over a week to finalise the seat-sharing between the Sena UBT, Congress and NCP(SP) on contentious Sssembly seats in different parts of the state including Mumbai Metropolitan Region , Vidarbha and parts of Konkan.

“We have already held discussions on the maximum seats which were considered as contentious and reached a consensus on many of such seats including those from Vidarbha region. We are yet to reach a consensus on some of the districts of Vidarbha but discussions are progressing smoothly. We will be mostly finalising and announcing seat sharing arrangements by Dussehra,” NSP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad said.

“Our discussions are progressing smoothly and positively and smoothly. Since there are three parties, surely on some seats there is a counterclaim between two or three parties but it is normal. However we are holding a proper discussion and sorting it out. We have resolved to announce the seats on the occasion of Dussehra,” Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut said.

Maharashtra PRadesh Congress President also echoed Raut and Awhad and said that the region-wise and constituency-wise discussions are on between the MVA partners. “We are holding proper discussions and then going ahead on every seat. Our aim is to announce at least 175-200 seats,” he said.

Earlier Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat announced that 150 seats had been earmarked, and MVA will win over 180 seats in the polls.

Even as the MVA parties are claiming that the seat sharing discussion is taking place smoothly, the chief ministerial face has been a bone of contention among the allies, with Sena UBT insisting on declaring the CM face before the polls and the Congress and NCP (SP) reluctant to do that.

On Monday, Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said in a rally that the next chief minister of the state would be from Congress. “The Congress won the maximum seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, and it will repeat its performance in the Assembly polls. The next chief minister of Maharashtra will be from the Congress party,” Chavan said.
