Days after breaking ties with Maha Vikas Aghadi, Prakash Ambedkar, president of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, on Friday said that his party was not treated at par in MVA, and he was offered only three seats to contest. He said he would now work towards uniting like-minded smaller outfits and social organisations under one umbrella.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Ambedkar said, “Frankly speaking, MVA did not treat us at par. We were not consulted.” Disclosing that he was offered only three seats, Ambedkar said, “Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s attack on me was unwarranted. But then I believe Sanjay Raut and Sena (UBT) are two different issues.”

Following Ambedkar’s departure from MVA, Sanjay Raut had said, “His decision to break ties with Sena (UBT) was one-sided. His decision will only help the BJP.” Ambedkar had responded asking why VBA was kept out of all discussions. He said, “Raut conspired against us by keeping us out of seat-sharing talks.”

Ambedkar said he will now focus on creating an alternative front by bringing together like-minded smaller outfits and social organisations under one umbrella. Grandson of BR Ambedkar, the VBA chief has taken the initiative to bring Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil and OBC leaders under one umbrella by making “vanchit” ( oppressed) a common cause.

Ambedkar said, “I am deliberating with several factions and leaders. Something concrete will evolve by next week.”
While refraining from giving away details, he said, “I spoke to Jarange Patil. He has sought a list of constituencies from us.”

Asked if he was working on forming the third front in Maharashtra, Ambedkar said, “We have embarked on a plan to gather those who want to work for the poor, the oppressed and backward classes, on a single platform.”

Earlier this week, Ambedkar broke ties with Sena (UBT) just before the upcoming LS polls. He was upset with MVA leaders for not conceding to his demands for a sizable seat share. He was also irked that VBA was neither taken into confidence, nor allowed to participate in all meetings.
