The Amboli police on Tuesday arrested the son of music composer Ismail Darbar, along with two others, for allegedly assaulting an assistant director over monetary dispute. Darbar himself has also been named as an accused in the complaint.
According to the Amboli police, the complainant, Prashant Chaudhary, was working in collaboration with Darbar on an upcoming film project. The police said that Chaudhary worked with Darbar for two months, and later asked for the payment that he was entitled to, which led to an argument between Chaudhary and Darbar’s son Zaid (21).
“The complainant has alleged that on Monday night, Zaid, along with two others identified as Mohsin Khan (29) and Nishant Singh (21) came to the Evershine Cosmic building on Link Road in Andheri where Chaudhary stays and called him downstairs. When Chaudhary went down to meet the trio, they assaulted him severely, after which he approached the Amboli police, and named the trio as well as Darbar himself in his complaint,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni.

Police added that Chaudhary has alleged that Darbar was also present at the spot when the assault occurred, and that Darbar also participated in the assault, after which Darbar’s name was added in the FIR.
The Amboli police subsequently registered an assault and criminal intimidation against all four accused. Zaid, Khan and Singh were arrested on Tuesday, while the police are currently verifying whether Darbar was also involved or not, the police said.
“After relentlessly trying to get through to him to pay the money, for the 55 days I worked with him as an AD, when I finally got to speak to him I confronted him on Monday. He threatened to come to my house and beat me up. I didn’t take it seriously. On Tuesday morning, his son came to talk it out and got us out to the parking lot with the excuse that he had left his car windows open. When we got down, he attacked me from the back. And then Ismail Darbar, who was hiding behind one of the pillars, came out and started hitting us too. Soon there were more people with hockey sticks,” said Chaudhary. Darbar could not be reached for comment.
