Amid a good response from commuters, almost 90 per cent occupancy, on seven existing routes where premium buses are run, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking Thursday said it will add one more route — Kharghar to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) — from next week.
The BEST will also introduce 40 new premium AC buses which will run on all the eight routes. Currently, a total of 60 buses run on the seven routes, said BEST General Manager Lokesh Chandra.
In the mornings and the evenings, two services are operated on each route while at other times of the day, the premium buses are operated on other shorter routes.
Chandra said, “There is a demand from the commuters to run the premium bus service between Kharghar and BKC. The ticket fare will range from Rs 175-Rs 180.”
The BEST will also increase the frequency of buses on the airport route. “Soon, there will be one premium bus every 30 minutes,” Chandra said.
Commuters can book the services via the BEST Chalo mobile app. The payment mode is completely online as the buses do not have conductors. Commuters can also use the tap-in tap-out facility. This allows a commuter to use his or her mobile or smart card wallet to tap-in while boarding a bus and tap-out while deboarding. The fare is automatically calculated and deducted from the online wallets.
All the premium BEST buses are equipped with mobile and laptop charging facilities and comfortable reclining seats. Moreover, the buses plying on the airport routes have special baggage racks which can be used without any extra charge.
