Mumbai and its adjoining districts may experience rainfall coupled with thunderstorms during the weekend as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the maximum city along with Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. In its five day forecast issued on Wednesday, the IMD has stated that Mumbai along with neighbouring districts of Palghar and Thane will experience moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds between November 25 and 26. The IMD in its forecast has issued a yellow alert for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg starting November 23 (Thursday) and extending it till November 26. "At present a trough has formed in the Bay of Bengal coast due to which rainfall activities are expected. This trough is moving towards the Maharashtra coastline which may lead to rainfall in several coastal districts," Sunil Kamble, director of IMD Mumbai told The Indian Express on Wednesday. Weather officials also said that the rainfall activity may lead to better air quality in the coming days. Mumbai on Wednesday recorded an overall Air Quality Index of 126. Out of the 26 stations, only Shivaji Nagar showed a poor AQI of 217, while the remaining stations showed readings between moderate and satisfactory categories. Borivali had the best AQI of 82, followed by 90 in Colaba and 96 in Powai.
