The Mumbai police Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested a 19-year-old student of IIT Bombay in connection with the alleged suicide of fellow student Darshan Solanki on charges of abetment to suicide. Solanki died by suicide on February 12 A day after, IIT denied claims of caste discrimination A committee set up by IIT also concluded that the possible reason behind the the suicide was his “deteriorating academic performance”. A statement by one of his seniors said that Solanki was inquiring about the process of changing hostel room. The SIT had found an alleged suicide note in Solanki’s hostel room in which he had reportedly written “Arman you killed me”. The note lay bare lapses on the Powai Police's part in investigating the case. Khatri will remain in police custody till April 13.
