THE MUMBAI crime branch on Wednesday arrested a gang of robbers who broke into the Andheri godown of Hindustan Lever, tied up the watchman and made away with Rs 14 lakh kept there. The police said the main accused, Ashok Naik, was released from prison just four months ago, and he formed a gang again to carry out the robbery. [related-post] The incident took place on April 10, when five persons broke open the lock on the shutter of the godown located near Ghaswala Estate. When a security guard tried to intervene, they held him at gunpoint and tied him to a chair. They then fled with Rs 14 lakh following which a case was registered at the Oshiwara police station against unidentified persons. The Anti Robbery Cell of the crime branch led by senior inspector Ashok Khot began a probe in the matter and found that Nayak, a history sheeter, who had been released from prison four months ago, was allegedly involved in the crime. mumbai.newsline@expressindia.com
