The Mumbai police control room Tuesday afternoon received a suspected hoax call from a man who allegedly warned of a terrorist attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his trip to France and the US. The police later detained the man, who had switched off his phone after the call, from the Chembur area. The Mumbai police said they have shared information regarding the threat call made through a mobile phone with other Central and state security agencies. According to a police source, the caller warned in Hindi, “Modi is going to America. An American terrorist will bomb Modi's plane. Remember our warning; this is the same terrorist who has crashed six planes in the past month. It is the same terrorist who will put a bomb on Modi's plane.” When the police obtained details of the caller's phone number, they learned that it was also used to make calls to the police control room for more than 1,400 calls in the past for different types of calls, sources said. The police said the man was found to be mentally unstable, and that they are investigating him. The control room staff informed the control room head officer and other senior police officers. The police then shared the information with the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the Crime Branch. Though the police said they suspect it could be a hoax call, Crime Branch officers are looking into the matter. In November last year, the Mumbai police received a threat call from a woman who claimed that PM Modi would be attacked. This call was later found to be a hoax.
