Meanwhile, during the suo motu PIL hearing on the Badlapur sexual abuse case, the Bombay High Court emphasised the need for gender sensitisation among schoolchildren. The Court questioned why the teacher, who should have supervised the children’s use of the toilet, was only named a witness and directed the SIT to consider invoking Section 16 of the POCSO Act due to the teacher’s omission and failure to report the incident. The bench stressed that all school authorities must report any POCSO offences they become aware of.

Weather Updates: In the past 24 hours ending 8.30 am, IMD’S Colaba coastal observatory recorded 24 mm rainfall while the Santacruz station registered 11 mm rain. Data furnished by BMC’s automatic weather station (AWS) shows that the highest rainfall has been recorded in the eastern suburbs at an average of 14.47 mm, followed by the island city division (13.85 mm) and the western suburbs (12 mm). According to the weather bureau, Mumbai is likely to witness moderate showers on Wednesday.

Maharashtra cabinet minister Deepak Kesarkar defended his "something good may come out of the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji's statue" remarks and demanded the erection of a similar 100-foot structure at the same spot.

Under flak from the opposition, Kesarkar said his remarks had been misconstrued. "We want the biggest statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji to come up in Sindhudurg, the erstwhile headquarters of Shivaji's navy. This (statue collapse) is an unfortunate incident. A 100-foot statue should be built at the spot," the state education minister, who hails from Sindhudurg, told reporters.

Instagram ‘friend’ from UK dupes Mumbai woman of Rs 24 lakh

A 31-year-old woman from Mumbai’s Mahim was allegedly cheated of Rs 24.07 lakh by a fraudster who befriended her on Instagram, the police said, adding that they have begun investigating the matter. The fraudster posed as a senior functionary working for MSC Cruises, a Geneva-based Swiss-Italian global cruise line.

The complainant, who works as an accountant in a private company, said that in February this year, she received a friend request on Instagram from a person named Torres Neil. He told her that he works at MSC Cruises and lives in the United Kingdom.

ED raids 9 places linked to betting app Fairplay

Enforcement Directorate (ED) Mumbai Tuesday conducted searches at nine locations including Delhi and Noida as part of the ongoing probe against Fairplay, an online betting platform.

Bombay HC slams SEBI, BSE, NSE for ‘reckless’ freezing of father and son’s demat accounts

The Bombay High Court on Monday, while slamming SEBI, BSE and NSE for ‘high-handed’ and ‘reckless’ action to freeze demat account of the two petitioners, father and a son, asked the authorities to jointly pay Rs. 30 lakh and 50 lakh costs (total Rs. 80 lakhs) to petitioners within two weeks. The court declared their decisions as ‘illegal’ and ‘invalid’.

A division bench of Justices Girish S Kulkarni and Firdosh P Pooniwalla on August 26 passed a judgement in two pleas by Dr. Pradeep Mehta, a gynaecologist and a senior citizen and his son Neil Mehta, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI).
