Mumbai News Live Updates: The Mumbai district election officer Bhushan Gagrani, has mandated that all establishments within Brihanmumbai limits grant leave to employees for voting in the Maharashtra assembly elections on November 20 to increase voter turnout. Non-compliance by employers will result in action under Election Commission guidelines.

Maharashtra polls campaign: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is set to Maharashtra Assembly poll campaign in Daryapur on Thursday to support Abhijit Adsul, son of Shinde-led Shiv Sena leader Anand Adsul, who is contesting from the constituency. Thackeray will then proceed to campaign for Sunil Kharate, the party’s candidate in Badnera.

Congress suspends rebel candidates for 6 years, says no friendly fight within MVA in Maharashtra Assembly elections

The Congress announced on Thursday that party rebels who have not withdrawn their nominations against the official Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidates in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are suspended from the party for six years.

Addressing the media, Ramesh Chennithala, Maharashtra Congress in-charge, said, “There would be no friendly contests (within the MVA) anywhere. Those who have not withdrawn their candidatures have been suspended from the party for six years.”

Among those who have been suspended are Rajendra Mulak (Ramtek), Yadnyavalkya Jichkar (Katol), Jayashri Patil (Sangli), Aba Bagul (Parvati), and Kamal Vyavahare (Kasba). Read More

Maharashtra Police book sellers, e-commerce platforms for promoting t-shirts glorifying Lawrence Bishnoi and Dawood Ibrahim

The Maharashtra cyber police Wednesday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against several e-commerce platforms and sellers for selling t-shirts that glorify gangsters, including Lawrence Bishnoi and Dawood Ibrahim.

The Maharashtra Cyber Department filed the FIR under sections 192 (provocation), 196 (promoting enmity), and 353 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and those under the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.

The listings, which were found on popular e-commerce sites such as Flipkart, AliExpress, TeeShopper, and Etsy, depict these gangsters as cultural icons, trivialising the serious crimes they are associated with, said an officer of the cyber police.

As part of the investigation, the Cyber Department is working with the e-commerce platforms to ensure that such content is promptly removed and that stricter controls are enforced on future listings, said the officer. Read More

Mumbai woman looking to sell old furniture ends up losing nearly Rs 6.5 lakh to cyberfraud

A 45-year-old woman was allegedly duped of Rs 6.48 lakh by an unknown individual while attempting to sell her old furniture online. The incident took place in Mumbai and an FIR to the tune was lodged on Tuesday, the Oshiwara police said on Thursday.

The woman resides with her family in Jogeshwari (West) while her husband, who works for a bank, lives in Qatar. According to police sources, she had posted an ad on a popular classifieds site on Monday to sell her old furniture.

The police have registered a case under Sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319(2) (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are working to trace the suspect by following the money trail, a police officer confirmed. Read More

Days after Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan receives threat call; case filed

Mumbai Police on Thursday registered a case after actor Shah Rukh Khan received a threat call.

This comes days after Salman Khan received a death threat by a man who who identified himself as the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

The police said they believed that the message, sent from an unknown number, appeared to be a hoax. “We are in the process of registering a case. A team has already been assigned to locate the suspect,” said the officer.

Death threat to Salman Khan: Rajasthan man arrested from Karnataka’s Hubballi

The Mumbai police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man from Rajasthan, who works as a daily wage labourer in Karnataka Hubballi, for allegedly issuing a death threat to actor Salman Khan on Tuesday.

According to the Mumbai police, the suspect identified as Bhikha Ram was traced to Hubballi based on his mobile phone number. They said he was arrested with the help of the local police.

“It appears that he sent the message for fun and there is no serious threat involved,” an officer said, adding that they are still verifying his motive.

Ajit Pawar’s NCP releases constituency-specific manifesto, promises to increase financial aid to women and farmers, create 25 lakh jobs

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday released its Maharashtra Assembly elections manifesto, reiterating the ruling Mahayuti alliance's promise to increase the amount under Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana from the existing Rs 1,500 per month to Rs 2,100 per month.

The NCP’s constituency-specific manifesto contains 11 new promises. For farmers, the party has promised to raise the Shetkari Sanman Nidhi from Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per year, combining support from the Central and state governments.

The manifesto proposes waiving farmer loans and providing a 20 per cent additional subsidy for all crops sold under minimum support price (MSP). The NCP, which is part of Mahayuti along with Shiv Sena and the BJP, has also assured paddy farmers of a Rs 25,000 per hectare bonus. The manifesto also promises to increase the old age pension from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100 monthly.
