A 19-year-old man allegedly beat to death his live-in partner’s four-year-old son for urinating in pants at Kurla East in Mumbai on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Omkar. His mother Pujakumari Chandravanshi was away at work when the incident took place. The police registered a murder case against the accused, Ritesh Kumar, a canteen worker at an office. As per the FIR, Pujakumari, a restaurant cook, left for work on Saturday around 1 pm, leaving her two children, Sakshi, 6; and Omkar, behind at their Patra Chawl house in Kurla East. Puja, who hails from Bihar, got married in 2016 but later parted ways with her husband and had been living with Ritesh, said the police. After returning home from work around 3 pm, she discovered that Omkar was complaining of severe stomach pain and had vomited. He told her that he had gone to play and had returned home to change his pants after he had urinated in them. Omkar said Ritesh was annoyed at him for urinating in pants, and kicked him several times in the stomach and legs. She confronted Ritesh and a neighbour also questioned him about why he had beaten up the child so brutally. Ritesh left the house soon after, said the police. Concerned for her son’s health, the mother took Omkar to a local doctor who provided initial treatment. However, when his condition worsened, she rushed him to Sion Hospital, where he was admitted but succumbed to injuries later that day. The woman then approached the local Nehru Nagar police station, where the murder case was filed.
