The Nehru Nagar police in Kurla have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly stalking and sending inappropriate messages to a 29-year-old woman, who is a housewife.
The police said the accused was harassing her since January. The man allegedly kept texting her despite the woman changing her phone number. A case was registered on Tuesday following which the accused, identified as Manoj Kudiya, a resident of Chembur, was arrested.
According to the police, the accused would allegedly repeatedly call the woman on her mobile number. He also allegedly sent obscene and inappropriate messages on her WhatsApp number.
“Kudiya and the complainant were in a relationship before. At present, he is married to another woman. The woman is also married to another person,” an officer said.
“For the past seven months, he has been sending obscene messages on her number. The complainant even changed her number. But the accused managed to get her new number and started sending messages on that number too,” the officer added.
The woman approached the Nehru Nagar police station in Kurla on Tuesday following which a case under sections 354 (D) (stalking) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
The police traced the accused at his house in Chembur through call data records. Kudiya was then brought to the police station. “He confessed to the crime and was arrested,” the officer said.
Senior police inspector Mahamad Yusuf Majid Saudagar confirmed the arrest but refused to divulge further details.
