Four persons died and two others were grievously injured after a van, transporting a high-end car, rammed into their SUV on the Mumbai-Goa highway near Mahad in Raigad. Police said the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday.
The driver has been arrested and will be produced in court on Saturday. Police said he was allegedly driving under the influence.
According to police, the four deceased have been identified as Suryakant More, Sahil Shelar, Prasad Natekar and Sameer Minde, while those injured are Suraj Nalawade and Shubham Matal. “The victims were from Mahad city. They had decided to go to Loneri village to have coffee at midnight. The village is about 20 km away from their place,” an officer from Raigad police said.
However, their Scorpio ran out of diesel on the way and they had to stop. “They had stopped on one side of the flyover,” the officer added. “One of them left to fetch diesel, while the others waited there. A speeding towing van came from behind and rammed into them,” the officer said.
