Mumbai: Despite heatwave alert, sea breeze prevents temperature from soaring high
But heatwave alert to remain on Monday

Even though a heatwave alert has been issued in Mumbai on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius only, which was 2.4 degrees above normal.
Meanwhile, issuing a revised forecast, the IMD kept a heatwave alert only for March 10. Earlier, a heatwave alert was given between March 9 and 11. In its latest forecast, the IMD, however, maintained that hot and humid conditions will continue to exist on Tuesday.
According to the rules, a heatwave condition is recorded in a coastal city when two observatories record an average of 37 degrees maximum temperature in a day.
IMD officials maintained that an early setting of sea breeze resulted in the day temperature not rising very high. Meanwhile, alongside Mumbai, a heatwave alert has been issued for Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts as well for March 10.
