Firing in police station: BJP MLA’s driver held
Mumbai: Thane police crime branch have arrested the driver of BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad who allegedly tried to kill former Shinde Sena corporator—Mahesh Gaikwad—by opening fire on him inside a Ulhasnagar police station on February 2. Ranjit Yadav was among the few others who were named as accused by the police in the case. Ganpat’s son Vaibhav is still wanted in the case, while Ganpat was arrested on the day of the incident itself.

Drunk man caught for hoax call to police
Mumbai: Police have caught a man for making a hoax call. The police control room 112 Nagpur on Saturday night received a call from a man who identified himself as Venkatesh Rajan Magadi. The caller told the police that 12 bombs had been placed at Bank Of Maharashtra in Deonar Colony, Govandi. Local Govandi police was informed and Magadi was caught. A probe revealed that he made the phone call under the influence of alcohol.

5 in Custom’s net for smuggling gold
Mumbai: Airport Customs department on Sunday said that between February 9 and 11, customs officials, in five separate cases, seized 1.76 kg of gold worth nearly Rs 1 crore. The gold was smuggled by passengers from Singapore, Abi Dhabi, Dubai and Colombo. The smuggled yellow metal was concealed in the passengers’ clothes, in inner linings of check-in baggage and in cavities in sandals. Five, including a foreigner, have been arrested.
