Reacting to the mounting number of complaints against the draft Development Plan 2014-34, the state cabinet on Tuesday issued orders asking the BMC to scrap Mumbai's two-decade long blueprint and resubmit it. "The state government has decided to scrap the draft Development Plan and decided to give directions to BMC to prepare a fresh DP in next four months and then go for suggestions and objections," said CM Devendra Fadnavis addressing the media after the cabinet meeting. Read More: Dumped DP is good news for all in the city Fadnavis added that the review committee headed by Chief Secretary Swadhin Kshatriya had recommended two options, of extending the time for receiving suggestions and objections or drafting a fresh DP and the cabinet decided to go with the later option. [related-post] The controversial DP was released by BMC in the end of February and opened for receiving suggestions and objections from citizens. The DP has received a major backlash from citizens across the city who have pointed out to grave errors in the city's blueprint for the next 20 years. Calling it a welcome decision, Pankaj Joshi from the urban development research institute (UDRI) said, "It is very encouraging of the CM to have taken this qualified decision of looking into the DP again. We completely welcome this move." The UDRI along with various NGOs have been on the forefront demanding that the plan be scrapped.
