A 37-year-old police constable died after his throat was slit by a manja. The police said the constable—Sameer Jadhav—was on his bike when a manja cut his throat on Sunday afternoon.
He was declared dead at Sion hospital, said the police.
The incident took place on Western Express Highway at Vakola Bridge in Santacruz.
Jadhav was posted at Dindoshi police station and lived at BDD chawl in Worli. “He was on night duty on Saturday and was returning home on his bike when the incident took place at around 3.30 pm,” a policeman said.
The patrolling van of Kherwadi police was informed after which Jadhav was rushed to Sion hospital. He was declared dead before he could be admitted.
An officer said, “It appears that a few children from a chawl nearby were flying kites. We are still trying to gather details.” The Kherwadi police have registered a case of accidental death report and are probing further. The constable is survived by his wife and two children, officials said.
