ONE POLITICAL subject that keeps recurring in Maharashtra is — will uncle Sharad Pawar and his estranged nephew Ajit Pawar merge their respective parties NCP(SP) and NCP? While both sides downplayed the subject, it has become the most debated issue these days. While some within the BJP dismissed it as Pawar Sr Play, others dismissed it as ploy to create confusion among the rival faction ahead of local body elections. When Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was asked about this, he said, “Why ask me? A SENIOR state minister, deemed the blue-eyed boy of one of the most powerful men in the state, is now fighting rumours around his personal life. Allegations of an extra-marital relationship, fueled by a social media influencer and further fanned by his political rivals, have put him in an uncomfortable position. The minister has now taken the legal route to scrub the internet clean of the offending content. While the court has offered some reprieve and ordered to take down a few videos, the buzz refuses to die down. For a man seen as close to the powers, the episode is proving to be an unexpected dent in his image.

No In Poll Year

AT A meeting of one of the departments important for rural Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was astonished to know about the sanctioned works worth more than Rs 10,000 crore in the previous election year. He asked the minister, who handled the same portfolio in the previous government as to why he did not exercise restraint while sanctioning projects. The minister expressed helplessness saying since it was election year and that he couldn’t say “no” to anyone.
