In what could expedite work on Metro corridors in the city, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday approved the formation of a separate company, the Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMOCL). It will exclusively oversee the operations of upcoming Metro corridors. The company will look after the operations of two corridors in particular - Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A corridor and Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7 corridor. Operations in these corridors will start in 2020. R A Rajeev, Metropolitan Commissioner (MMRDA), said, “The company will look after all the Metro corridors that will come up in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and a startup capital of Rs 5 crore will be given to it by the MMRDA. It will have its headquarters in Aarey Colony.” Rajeev added, “All types of revenue from operations of Metro corridors will go to this independent company, including ticketing and non-ticketing revenue. However, profits will go to the MMRDA for repaying the loans taken for construction of these Metro corridors.” The MMRDA, in a statement, said, “The corporation will be an autonomous body and deal with operation and maintenance of Metro lines as also Monorail.”
