Mumbai Air Quality Index (AQI) Level Today, October 21: A day after Diwali, several parts of Mumbai recorded air quality index (AQI) in the ‘very poor’ category on Tuesday, with the Air Quality Early Warning System showing the highest reading of 341 at India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Colaba station, as of 5 am.

Owing to bursting of firecrackers and slowing down of wind patterns as winter nears, the air quality index (AQI) in Mumbai plummeted severely, with the Air Quality Early Warning System for Mumbai showing a reading of 217 early morning, marking a massive spike from 187 recorded on Monday.

This is the worst recorded AQI since the monsoon withdrawal on October 10. Usually, Mumbai records a rise in the overall AQI following Diwali every year.
