Mumbai: Air-conditioned study centre launched for under privileged kids in Colaba
The centre is proposed to remain open from 11 am to 6.30 pm, enabling children from nearby slums to avail the facility

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday launched a first of its kind air-conditioned study centre for under-privileged children in Colaba.
Developed by BMC with CSR fundings, the facility is equipped with benches and drinking water facility, which can accommodate nearly 30 children at a time.
Located near the Badhwar Park main signal, the centre seeks to provide respite to students from underprivileged families from the scorching heat, by offering them a space to study during summers and prepare for their exams.
The centre is proposed to remain open from 11 am to 6.30 pm, enabling children from nearby slums to avail the facility.
According to Makarand Narwekar, former corporator from Colaba, the project was undertaken as the existing study centre at Captain Prakash Pethe Marg was in dire need for an upliftment.
Narwekar said that plans are afoot to develop similar centres across the city.
“This centre will benefit hundreds of students who come there to study from the neighbouring slums like Shiv Shakti Nagar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Garib Janta Nagar, Steel Godown etc,” said Narwekar, adding, “It’s expected that this centre will get good response from students.”
