A 52-year-old man was allegedly killed by two unknown persons inside a spa at Worli on Wednesday. The police said the deceased, who has worked as an RTI activist and also a police informer, had celebrated his birthday with the spa’s staffers before he was stabbed to death.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 3 am on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Guru Waghmare, a resident of Vile Parle, was a frequent visitor at Soft Touch Spa at Worli Naka.
An officer said, “Waghmare’s birthday was on July 17 and as the staff of the spa were asking him for a party, he had taken four of them to a restaurant in Sion on Tuesday night. They all consumed alcohol there. One of the staff members is a 21-year-old woman.”
At around 1 am on Wednesday, Waghmare and the staff members returned to the spa following which they spent some time there and subsequently decided to stay the night inside the spa.
Later at 2.30 am, the police said three male staff members went outside and, within 10 minutes, two unknown persons entered the spa and allegedly stabbed him multiple times, causing his death. “The incident took place in the middle of the night but police were informed only at 2 pm after which a team was sent to the spot and a case of murder was registered,” said a senior police officer.
Waghmare was rushed to BYL Nair hospital where he was declared dead before admission. The Worli police have started scrutinising the CCTV footage to identify the suspects. The four staff members are being questioned.
